  • Content you create: Notes, documents, links, images, and other content you add to your boards
  • Uploaded files: Images, documents, and other files you upload to the service
  • Usage data: Information about how you use the service, including AI feature usage, login times, and general activity patterns
  • Device information: Browser type, operating system, and device type for providing a better experience
  • Payment information: Processed securely by Stripe; we do not store your full card details

2. How We Use Your Data

We use your information to:

  • Provide the service: Store and display your boards, notes, and content
  • Power AI features: Send your board content to AI providers to generate insights, find connections, and provide suggestions
  • Improve the product: Analyze usage patterns to fix bugs and improve features (we do not read your content for this purpose)
  • Communicate with you: Send important account notifications, respond to support requests, and (with your consent) share product updates
  • Process payments: Handle subscription billing and purchases

3. AI Data Handling

When you use AI features, your board content is sent to Anthropic's Claude API for processing. Important things to know:

  • We do not use your data to train AI models. Your content is used only to provide AI features to you.
  • Anthropic may temporarily process your content to provide responses, subject to their privacy policy and data handling practices.
  • AI conversations and generated insights are stored to provide continuity and improve your experience.
  • You can delete your AI conversation history at any time by deleting your boards or account.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Traverse:

  • Supabase: Database hosting, authentication, and file storage
  • Anthropic (Claude): AI-powered insights and analysis features
  • Stripe: Payment processing for subscriptions and purchases
  • Vercel: Website hosting and infrastructure

Each of these providers has their own privacy policies governing how they handle data. We encourage you to review their policies.

5. Cookies and Local Storage

We use minimal cookies and local storage:

  • Authentication cookies: Essential for keeping you logged in securely
  • Local storage: Used to store UI preferences (like sidebar width, theme settings) on your device

We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account:

  • Your personal information and content will be deleted within 30 days
  • Some data may be retained in encrypted backups for a limited period
  • We may retain certain information as required by law (e.g., transaction records for tax purposes)

7. Data Security

We take security seriously and implement appropriate measures to protect your data:

  • All data is encrypted in transit using TLS/HTTPS
  • Passwords are securely hashed; we never store them in plain text
  • Row-level security ensures users can only access their own data
  • We use trusted cloud infrastructure providers with strong security practices

While we strive to protect your data, no system is completely secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and keep your account credentials safe.

8. Children's Privacy

Traverse is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete the information.

9. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Access: You can access and download your data through the export feature
  • Deletion: You can delete your account at any time through account settings
  • Correction: You can update your account information at any time
  • Export: You can export your boards in multiple formats (JSON, Markdown, PDF)

10. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed and stored on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. By using Traverse, you consent to the transfer of your data to these locations.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a prominent notice in the service. Your continued use of Traverse after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

12. Governing Law

This privacy policy is governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New Zealand.
